Namely, dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphins are the chemicals that determine how each and everyone of us experiences happiness.
Did you know that you can encourage your body to release more of these chemicals by participating in certain tasks and activities?
According to the WHO, over the past decade there has been a 13% increase in mental health disorders, and we are all far too aware that life's demands and stresses tend to increase as we get further into adulthood. Thus the tips below are something that everyone should be aware of, share them as far and wide as possible.
See below, the 4 happy chemicals and how to hack them:
Dopamine
The reward chemical or motivator.

Dopamine is released in response to things such as praise, achievement and food.
You can increase dopamine production by:
trying something new
listening to music
make a list of to-do's and do them (break large goals down into smaller ones)
treat yourself, buy your favourite chocolate or those shoes you've been saving for!
Serotonin
The mood stabiliser.

Serotonin not only regulates our mood, but it also a regulator of sleep, appetite, digestion, energy, memory and cardio-vascular function.
Simply by changing your scenery/ nature and your mind set, you can start increasing your serotonin supply.
Get more sunlight
Exercise
Meditate
Follow healthy eating habits
Oxytocin
The love hormone.

This hormone is most easily accessibly through parent-childing bonding and sex, but it does not always have to be physical in order to stimulate this hormone.
show some affection to someone you love or your animals
Just being around and spending time with loved ones can stimulate oxytocin release.
Endorphins
The pain reliever, or the body's natural morphine as some may refer to it.

These hormones have both analgesic and sedative properties and is most easily accessible through exercise.
Some other ways to stimulate endorphin release:
Laughing
Yoga and meditation
Creating music or art
Conclusion
Most of our happy chemicals can be hacked by getting outside and soaking up some vitamin D, regular exercise, healthy eating habits and surrounding yourself with people you love. Sounds simple enough, but life's daily struggles can often take a toll on our balance and even the motivation to re-claim that balance.
Start with one small action a day, one small task to tick off your list and you will soon gain momentum. Please remember, if you are feeling depressed or are having suicidal thoughts, seek help from a professional as soon as possible. Contact your national depression and anxiety group on their toll-free number if you are unable to gain access to a medical professional.
